-- Barbara Mcree, CEO of Mutt Madd-ness No-Kill Rescue
In this novel set in the dog-eat-dog world of recessionary New York City, the irrepressible Miss Pink leads a pack of down-on-their-luck women who ultimately find hope in the most unlikely of places an over-crowded animal shelter, where unwanted pets are routinely abandoned to their grim fates. Miss Pink, a former marketing executive and divorcee who is intermittently homeless herself, makes it her mission to find homes for a growing bevy of cuddly canines. Her "adoption walks" bring her to meet a series of fellow New Yorkers, all of whom are struggling with their own personal and financial crises. In other words, they are all uniquely ripe for recruitment in Miss Pink's master plan- which she's devising on the fly, by the seat of her favorite pink pants!

Dogs Have Angels Too Sarah Cavallaro 9781935340867 Books Reviews
Let me start by saying I am not an animal person. Taking on this book pushed me to read a topic I would normally pass. I am very glad that I did not pass on this book.
Ms. Pink, not her real name, loses her husband to his mistress, then loses her job to a merger. Her pride got in the way and she refused a severance package. When her money runs out and she is forced to leave her apartment and most of her belongings behind, she finds herself homeless.
Ms. Pink struggles to find any job and starts volunteering at an animal shelter. She becomes an advocate for the dogs, an angel of sorts. She manages to find other people who are down on their luck and give them a purpose. The story tells how even when down on your luck you can make the world a better place for animals and people.
This story is an eye opening story on how when things look bad there is a silver lining to be found. Ms. Pink comments that things are better this week than last week. Her life struggles are very real to many people. Even losing her husband and high powered job are not enough to break her or keep her down.
If you are an animal lover this book is a definitely a have to read. If you are like me, not an animal lover, and are just looking for a good book to read, this book it for you.
It's always exciting to start reading a new novel, but I must say I was extra excited to begin DOGS HAVE ANGELS TOO. There were several reasons. Hello, everyone knows I'm a dog fanatic and there's a cute little bulldog on the pink cover. And best of all, the cover is a laminated film, so I just couldn't stop rubbing the book. I have a thing for paper stock! I either really LOVE it or freak out and itch! I wish EVERY novel was published on this "10-point coated-one-side with film lamination." What's even better is the novel is REALLY good, too!
"I don't know how you do it, Miss Pinky, living like you do day in and day out."
"I'm better off today than I was last week," I say.
"How do you justify your life?"
"Find something to do that makes you feel worthwhile."
Sarah Cavallaro's, DOGS HAVE ANGELS TOO is a modern day allegory that helps us take a look at our lives and at what matters most. It uses dogs because we all love dogs and they're not threatening. In this novel, our four-legged friends really need our help.
In DOGS HAVE ANGELS TOO, Miss Pink leads a bunch of down-on-their-luck Manhattan women, who ultimately find hope in the most unlikely of places an over-crowded animal shelter, where unwanted pets are routinely abandoned to their last days. Miss Pink, a victim of the economic downturn and divorcee finds herself regularly living in the park, and makes it her job to find homes for a many of the pooches at the Animal Care Center.
Her "adoption walks" bring her to meet a series of fellow New Yorkers, all of whom are struggling with their own personal and financial crises. In other words, they are all uniquely ready for recruitment in Miss Pink's master plan - which she's devising by the seat of her favorite pink pants!
It would be easy to write off Miss Pink as an eccentric. I mean there are times she has to eat from the trash, but those who come in contact with her can't help but be attracted to her energy and main goal to help the animals. Just when you think Miss Pink isn't going to come through, she does. She creates a positive force that somehow permeates her travels throughout the city and makes you keep on reading to see what fix she gets out of next. And remember, everything is to help the animals!
I liked the fact that Sarah wrote a novel with the main character over fifty and interacting with younger characters at the Animal Center and throughout the city. It would be too simple to judge Miss Pink in an unfair light. I'd say you're not getting it. Maybe you just want to rub the cover. You can find Sarah Cavallaro and "Dogs Have Angels Too" on Facebook.
Miss Pink has been laid off from her job as a high-powered marketing exec. She has also been divorced, and swindled out of all her investments thanks to Bernie Madoff. All this occurs in conjunction with her deciding not to accept the severance package her company offered.
Pink then uses up all her saved money trying to network, can't seem to find another job in marketing (or anyplace else) and becomes homeless in NYC during the recession. Miss Pink sleeps in shelters and Central Park, and volunteers at an animal shelter. Walking everywhere she goes and living cash paycheck to cash paycheck, she also cleans apartments when there is work, but has nothing steady.
As Miss Pink heads off each day on a quest to find homes for abandoned dogs, she meets an interesting array of characters. Included in the mix are fellow victims of Mr. Madoff, a pet store owner and her manager, and a woman named Mrs. Wolf, who is constantly mistaken for Ruth Madoff. This unlikely combination of women during a time of economic awfulness makes for a fascinating story. In Miss Pink's shoes, most of us may have given up. Not her!
Crusading through New York City, Pink comes up with a plan that will rescue hundreds of dogs and finds a job that ends up opening the door for her to do so. Along with Mrs. Wolf, and some help from people who believe in her, this woman is unstoppable. Each time life seems to kick her when she's down she gets up, dons a new pink outfit, and presses onward. It's as if the ammo she needs falls right into her hands and she yields the ultimate weapons faith, hope and love. This is just what she; and of course her four legged friends, need.
Every once in a while there is a story that makes us reflect and feel grateful for what we have. This is one of them. Dogs Have Angels Too takes several seemingly hopeless situations and merges them into a successful project. Cavallaro brings to light a question that we all ask at one time or another when we adopt a dog Who rescued who? In the end, everyone is going to be just fine. Check out this delightful summer read with a furry friend by your side!
